Join a lovely group of beginning and intermediate watercolor painters at one of the locations. Jean can supply materials at an additional cost if necessary. To sign up text or call 503-649-9097 or send an email to [email protected].
You can paint your birds in any color you like, I'll teach you how to focus on values, brushwork and shapes instead of color to make these birds come to life.
I have found that starting with abstract, simple shapes frees students to learn how watercolor works without concentrating on making their painting look like something specific. It's been a game changer. I do the same when we do something like this month's subject, birds. I'll have everyone do a warm up of a simple, abstract bird using the techniques that I will teach again when we do the more realistic bird. I'll give you the tips you need so that you can express the birds feathers without attempting to paint each feather. You'll learn how to shade the bird to give it form. We'll discuss why using colors different from the photo will give you a more pleasing painting. You need to prepare two 140 lb small (roughly 5x7) sheets of watercolor paper for this month's subject. Bring normal watercolor supplies. I don't want people going to the expense of buying colors to match what I use, just bring what you have. When you enroll, I'll send out the photos to copy and a list of watercolor supplies.
Please do not buy any supplies until we have a discussion. Watercolor takes good materials to get the results you want. I can help you find those supplies at a reasonable cost or you can purchase a basic kit from me.
